iPhone water resistance claims ruled unfair; Apple fined $12M

From 9To5Mac:

Second, and more seriously, Apple made iPhone water resistance claims in its marketing, but then refused warranty service on phones which suffered water damage.

Good. Fine them for lying.

Hopefully more countries and regulators step up and do the same.

At Apple’s 2018 Keynote Phil Schiller even claimed (quote below per CNET):

“So if you happen to be hanging by the pool, drop your phone in the water… don’t worry, dive down, grab it, rinse it, let it dry, you’ll be fine,” said Schiller.

And Schiller didn’t stop at pool water.

“And the team tested in many different liquids — in chlorinated water, salt water, orange juice, tea, wine, even beer. Now this is some of the most fun intense testing we get to do at Apple,” he added.

Lying.
